Difficulty
This picture is not related to my current entry. This is our company's test kitchen. I was in charge of cooking the Soba noodles at the end of the year (I already retired from cooking in 2003. I am only in charge of eating soba now.). This is our Japanese traditional event called Toshikoshi Soba. Soba is usually narrow and long, right? So we wish our life is also narrow and long = wish live long. We have to eat soba before new year. If you eat soba past midnight, it's bad luck. This custom started from middle of Edo Period in the 1700s.
Last Thursday(11/04/04), my boss and I went to a tax seminar in Mountain View. This seminar started from 2pm. So we ate lunch before we went to the site. He brought me to one of the noodle shops called Ryowa Ramen.
They are soo crowded and we had to stay in line for more than 20 min. That's how popular this ramen shop is. Their lunch special menu is so simple, just A, B, C, D.
A : Ryowa original ramen, B : shoyu ramen, C: miso ramen, and D: corn ramen (? i forgot ). It was really hard for me to choose because they put pork from A to C. I should eat D because it seems like there is no meat in that. Since I felt like my stomach was not in good condition that time, I couldn't eat fiber(corn). So what I did.. I just ordered the A, the same as what my boss ordered... Then... Difficulty..!! Since he treated me to lunch, I felt bad if I took the pork pieces out from the ramen donburi immediately.. So.. I kept eating the noodle. Then same time, I am pushing the pork to the bottom of the donburi. Soup is not clear..So as long as I push them down, he will not see it at all.
I just felt bad for other reasons, too.
1. There are so many hungry people in the world. But I am wasting food(pork) because of my non-meat life.
2.I ate still noodle w/ pork taste. so I guess this pork melt into the ramen soup, too. So I got animal stuff in my body.. yuck!!! But that was the best way I could do.
Anyway.. If you can eat animal, no problem at all. This is a good ramen noodle, too. Their noodle is thick & wavy. So whenever we eat, noodle soup is absorbed into noodle well. So it's tasty. Oh one more thing.. they gave us kimchi and we can ate that as much as we can. That's another good thing, too.
If you have a chance to go to Mountain View area, try Ryowa Ramen. I bet you will not be disappointed at all even if you will wait in line for a long time.
