    Working Sunday...

    ***** Challenge !! *****

    Nice Catch!! Byrnes!!

Tomorrow I will have to finish 2 big scheduled jobs. Since I knew I will not have enough time for 2 things tomorrow, I will have to work during this weekend.

Can I delay finishing one of the jobs? No... As I mentioned in my prior entry "meeting..."(08/31/04), I am in charge of Acctg Dept Weekly Schedule Meeting. In the meeting, we have to explain why we are delayed if we couldn't finish on the due date. So it's easier for me if we finish work on time.

Why do we do that? I've always said that I really dislike having any kind of meeting. Just a waste of time for me. So usually I tried to finish it as early as I could. However my boss told me that I should try to recognize the responsibility of each person in the team. So I was thinking how I should remind them about their due dates as well.

This is the second time I am doing administrative work. The first time was in Japan. I was an assistant store manager in a convenience store. I was taking care of 15 people and it's almost same as current situation. That time I was still 23 and still young and immature. My management style then was.. I tried to raise everybody's motivation. Try to talk to them and care for their needs as much as I can & to not have favoritism. That's what I did. I am still carrying that style here in my current work as well.

This time... What I did.. We always announce our next month's due dates at the end of the month. But, ever since I started working here at my current company, no one really gives any feedback on these due dates. I thought they understand because I don't get any questions or comments. So, as usual, I remind them about the following week's due dates in our weekly meeting, then same time we check what we accomplished during the current week-- did we all make it to our individual due dates or not? if not, what was the reason why one couldn't make it? and when we will expect to finish it? That's what I decide to do during every meeting. As long as we remind ourselves what we did and how we did our work, we are aware of our current work status and will be aware of what else we will have to do. Don't misunderstand.. I didn't mean to point a finger to anyone. This is not a court. We don't need to judge people. We just need to find out what the problem is to reach our goal. If we have a problem, how should we solve this problem? Our work requires teamwork. We need to think together and solve together. That's how I feel I should manage the team.

Since I am the one who brought it up, I have to be more strict than others. So I will definitely finish the job tomorrow.
